Thank you for checking out my page! I am a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern with the State of Florida and a National Certified Counselor. I have a Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MA) degree, accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), which is an independent accrediting agency that assures graduate counseling programs throughout the United States and the world meet standards within the counseling profession. As a registered intern in the state of Florida, I receive supervision for licensing requirements, and to ensure I follow the best ethical guidelines in practice. I am currently working on a Ph.D. in Psychology, specializing in trauma interventions. I have experience working with attachment issues and complex trauma.
I have a Biology degree from Purdue University (1994) and a law degree from the University of Puerto Rico (1999). I am also a veteran military spouse of 27+ years and mother to four children ages 15 to 26. The military life required that I set aside my career to prioritize my family. As my husband approached retirement, I went back to graduate school to pursue the counseling profession.
I completed the certification for SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) as a premarital and marriage facilitator. I am also trained in integration with evidence-based approaches and able to incorporate spirituality within the counseling profession for people of all faiths if desired by the client (s). I am fluent in Spanish and have completed training in multicultural counseling, so I can relate to diverse populations.
I use a strength-based perspective. That means working together to find past and present successes and using these to address the challenges currently being faced. I am also trauma-informed in my approach and am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Finally, one of my passions in life is horses, and I am grateful that they are part of my team through Equine Facilitated Therapy services. I am also dually certified in Equine Facilitated Learning and Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy through The Herd Institute.
